Coding (Visual Block)

Grades 2-3Group Of Elementary Pupils In Computer Class

Check out our Coding for Kids I class!  This course requires less mathematical knowledge than our  Junior Coders (grades 4 and above), but still allows students develop skills in problem solving, sequencing, repetitive events, loops and de-bugging.  A great way to get your child involved in technology that promotes thinking rather than just entertainment.

Course cost for this 8 week session is $240. Fees must be paid in full prior to the start of the class session.  Each group will be limited to eight students. 

Coding For Kids II will be an 8 week course that delves more deeply into the programming skills introduced in Level I. This course will introduce more complex loops (nested and while), functions, variables and conditionals.  Students will have the opportunity to program a digital story as well as creating their own simple computer game.

Course cost for this session is $240.  Fees must be paid in full prior to the start of the class session.  Each group will be limited to eight students.

Junior Coders – Grades 4 and Above

Coding I.  This 8 week introductory course will focus on teaching: sequencing, repetition, events, conditional logic, animation, storytelling, problem solving and debugging, pen drawing, drawing shapes and patterns.

Each student will have their own computer station to work with.

The coding courses introduce visual programming (block coding) as a foundation to higher level coding courses.

This eight- week session  is now enrolling for the Winter session. The session will begin when a minimum of 5 students have enrolled. (Williams Parkway Location Only)

Course cost for this session is $240.  Fees must be paid in full prior to the start of the class session.  Each group will be limited to 6 students.  

Coding II

This course will introduce students to the following programming skills:

  • Creating interactive scenes with actors, scenes and music
  • Programming a digital story
  • Designing animations using loops
  • Programming motion along x- and y-axes
  • Building algorithms using conditional logic
  • Understanding scripts running in parallel
  • Programming music using notes, tempo and instruments
  • Creating different scenarios and effects in games and presentations
  • Troubleshooting and debugging simple programs
  • Students will begin to study the Java Script behind the code that they develop for each module.

Students must complete Level I in order to sign up for Level II.

Coding III

This course will introduce students to the following programming skills:

Drawing shapes and patterns using pen drawing commands

  • Programming fluid motion with keyboard control
  • Controlling Actors using messaging
  • Defining and using functions with parameters
  • Building physics projects using gravity, impulse, and velocity
  • Building their own versions of classic arcade games

Course cost for this session is $240.  Fees must be paid in full prior to the start of the class session.  Each group will be limited to eight students.  Students must complete Level II in order to sign up for Level III.

Coding IV

This 8 week course gives students extensive experience with coding their own games and device commands in preparation for the development of programs to control the devices built in our Intermediate/Senior Robotics Courses.

Coding Levels I through Level III must be completed prior to taking this course.

Students require advanced math skills including angles(degrees), co-ordinate planes and elapsed time.

Course cost for this session is $240.  Fees must be paid in full prior to the start of the class session.  Each group will be limited to eight students.

Python Coding (Levels 1-4)

Great for experienced young coders, this course introduces programming with the very practical Python language.  Used to develop apps and games, Python is a real-world experience with program development.

Four (eight-week) courses take students from the basics of this language through planning and developing a real-world app.

Each 8 week level is $240.

Robotics – Grades 4 and uprobotics

Investigation, modelling, design, engineering, programming collaboration, teamwork, presentation – these are skills that your child will use for a lifetime!

Join us for a fascinating, and fun, journey into the world of robotics!

Our Junior Robotics Program is divided into five courses,

Courses I through V are each 8 weeks in length.  Each class session will be 90 minutes long.  Using a project planning approach based on real world engineering thinking, students will explore real world problems, develop a solution and build a prototype.   Students will learn to both build and program their robots to solve the problem presented.  Each course will involve a minimum of two full builds as well as project presentation to build students’ confidence in sharing their ideas with an audience.

A great opportunity for students interested in entering robotics competitions, Sci-Tech Programs and for any student who simply loves to investigate and create.

Each course in the Junior Robotics Program will cost $240.

For the fullest experience, students should  prior experience with Scratch Coding (covered in our Coding Courses – see above).

Robotics I – Mondays 4:45-6:15 pm.

*Please note that for all Winter/Spring Session courses, there will be no classes during the the school March Break.  The course will also not run on Winter Statutory Holidays.  All course schedules are adjusted to ensure that students receive 8 full sessions.
